The AD5749 is a single-channel, low-cost, high-precision, current output driver with a hardware or software programmable output range. The software output range is set via an SPI/MICROWIRE-compatible serial interface. The AD5749 is designed for PLC and industrial process control applications. The analog input of the AD5749 is provided by a low voltage, single-supply DAC, and this analog input is internally conditioned to provide the required output current/voltage range. The AD5749 offers two programmable output current ranges: 0 mA to 24 mA or 4 mA to 20 mA. The current output features open-circuit protection and can drive a 0.1 H inductive load. The device operates from a supply voltage range of 10.8 V to 55 V. The output loop compliance voltage range is 0 V to AVDD − 2.75 V. The flexible serial interface is compatible with SPI and MICROWIRE and can operate in 3-wire mode, greatly reducing the digital isolation requirements for isolated applications. In addition, the interface supports optional PEC error checking using CRC-8, suitable for industrial environments where data communication faults may occur. The device also features a power-on reset function to ensure the device powers up in a known state, and an asynchronous CLEAR pin to set the output to the lower limit of the selected current range. The HW SELECT pin configures whether the device operates in hardware mode or software mode at power-up.
