Introduction
These Schottky-clamped TTL MSI circuits are designed for high-performance memory decoding or data routing applications requiring very short propagation delay times. In high-performance memory systems, these decoders can be used to minimize the impact of system decoding. When used with high-speed memories featuring fast enable circuits, the memory delay time is typically less than its typical access time. This means that the effective system delay introduced by Schottky-clamped system decoders is negligible. The XL/XDLS138 decodes one of eight lines based on the conditions of three binary select inputs, and these binary select inputs reduce the need for external gate circuits or inverters when cascading. A 24-line decoder can be implemented without external inverters, while a 32-line decoder requires only one inverter. The enable inputs can be used as data inputs for demultiplexing applications. All these decoders/demultiplexers feature fully buffered inputs, with each input representing only one normalized load to its driving circuit. All inputs are clamped with high-performance Schottky diodes to suppress line ringing and simplify system design. The XL74LS138 and XD74LS138 operate over a temperature range of 0℃ to 70℃.
