Introduction
This device is an adjustable 3-terminal positive voltage regulator capable of supplying more than 1.5A over an output voltage range of 1.25V to 37V. Its typical quiescent current is 1.5mA. The device requires only two external resistors to set the output voltage, and features a typical line regulation of 1mV and load regulation of 7mV. It is highly versatile, suitable for programmable output regulation and on-board local regulation. By connecting a fixed resistor between the ADJUST and OUTPUT pins, it can also be used as a precision current regulator. An optional output capacitor can be used to improve transient response. The output voltage is calculated as: V_O = V_REF(1 + R2/R1) + (I_ADJ × R2), where I_ADJ has a typical value of 50uA, which is negligible in most applications. C_ADJ is recommended to improve ripple rejection; C_I is recommended to provide adequate bypassing, especially when the regulator is located far from the power supply filter capacitor. C_O improves transient response but is not required for stability. If C_ADJ is used, protection diode D2 is recommended; if C_O is used, protection diode D1 is recommended, to provide a low-impedance discharge path.
