The MAX13085E is a +5.0V-powered RS-485/RS-422 transceiver with ±15kV ESD protection, integrating one driver and one receiver. The device includes failsafe circuitry that guarantees a logic-high output at the receiver when the receiver inputs are open or shorted. The receiver also outputs a logic high when all transmitters on the bus are disabled (high-impedance state). The MAX13085E features hot-plug capability, eliminating false transients on the bus during power-up or hot insertion. The device employs a slew-rate-limited driver to minimize EMI and reduce signal reflections caused by improper cable termination, enabling error-free data transmission at up to 500kbps. The MAX13085E is ideal for half-duplex communications, with a supply current of 1.2mA under no-load conditions or with the driver disabled at full load. The device features a receiver input impedance of 1/8 unit load, allowing up to 256 transceivers on the bus.
