Introduction
MAX13487/MAX13488 are half-duplex transceivers with +3.3V/+5V supply, ±15kV ESD protection, and RS-485/RS-422 compatibility, containing one driver and one receiver. These devices feature hot-swap capability to eliminate false transitions on the bus during power-up or live insertion. The MAX13487/MAX13488 employ an auto direction control architecture, making them ideal for applications that require combining the driver input with the driver enable signal to drive a differential bus, such as isolated RS-485 ports. The MAX13487 features a slew-rate-limited driver to minimize EMI and reduce signal reflections caused by improper cable termination, enabling error-free data transmission up to 500kbps. The MAX13488 has an unlimited slew-rate driver, allowing transmission speeds up to 16Mbps. The MAX13487/MAX13488 receiver input impedance is 1/8 unit load, allowing up to 256 transceivers on the bus. All driver outputs provide ±15kV ESD protection per the Human Body Model. These devices are available in an 8-pin SO package and operate over the extended temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.
