Introduction
Transient Diverting Suppressors (TDS) are designed to protect systems against EOS and ESD events. Leveraging IC technology, they provide a robust surge protection solution — rather than relying on PN junction breakdown and current discharge as in conventional TVS diodes, TDS devices divert surge current to ground through built-in surge-rated FETs, which offer lower on-resistance than the PN junctions found in TVS diodes. As a result, TDS devices deliver precise, smooth, temperature-independent clamping voltages, minimizing the residual voltage across the protected system. The TVS2200DRVR(ES) is ideally suited for protecting power buses operating at voltages up to 22V, with a rated peak transient pulse current of 70A (tp = 8/20μs). Housed in a compact DFN2020-6L package — 90% smaller than industry-standard SMA/SMB packages — TDS devices offer lower capacitance and 50% lower leakage current compared to conventional TVS-based solutions.
