This real-time clock IC includes a real-time clock/calendar and 31 bytes of non-volatile static RAM. It communicates with a microprocessor through a simple serial interface. The real-time clock/calendar counts seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, and years. For months with fewer than 31 days, the end-of-month date is automatically adjusted, with leap year correction supported. The clock operates in either 24-hour format or 12-hour format with AM/PM indication. The 31 bytes of RAM are available for temporary storage of critical data. Communication with the clock/RAM requires only three wires: reset, data line, and serial clock. Data can be transferred in single-byte or multi-byte bursts of up to 31 bytes. The IC features ultra-low power consumption, drawing less than 10nW while retaining data and timekeeping information.
