Introduction
Controller Area Network is a serial communication protocol designed to provide reliable, high-speed data transmission in harsh environments. TVS diodes offer a low-cost solution for addressing conducted and radiated EMI as well as ESD noise issues. The noise immunity and reliability of CAN transceivers can be easily improved by adding external TVS diodes to protect against transient voltage faults. This device provides a transient voltage suppression solution for CAN data communication lines. It is a low-capacitance bidirectional TVS device in a compact SOT-23 package, specifically suited for CAN 2.1 and CAN FD. The device is based on Zener technology with an optimized PN junction active area to deliver robust protection against transient EMI surge voltages and ESD. The device has been tested to exceed the EMI and ESD level specifications of popular high-speed CAN networks.
