Introduction
The LM2576 series regulators are monolithic integrated circuits that provide all active functions for a step-down switching regulator, capable of driving 3A loads with excellent line and load regulation. The series offers fixed output voltages of 3.3V, 5V, 12V, and an adjustable output version. These regulators require a minimum number of external components, are easy to use, and incorporate internal frequency compensation and a fixed-frequency oscillator. The LM2576 series can efficiently replace popular three-terminal linear regulators, significantly reducing heatsink size and in some applications eliminating the need for a heatsink altogether. Standard inductor series specifically designed for the LM2576 are available from multiple manufacturers, greatly simplifying switching power supply design. Additional features include: output voltage guaranteed within ±4% tolerance under specified input voltage and output load conditions, and oscillator frequency tolerance of ±10%. An external shutdown function is provided, with a typical standby current of 50 μA. The output switch incorporates cycle-by-cycle current limiting and thermal shutdown for full protection under fault conditions. The LM2576 is available in TO220T-5L and TO263-5L packages.
