Introduction
The LM2576 series regulators are monolithic ICs that provide all active functions required for a step-down switching regulator, capable of driving 3A loads with excellent line and load regulation. The series offers fixed output voltage versions of 3.3V, 5V, and 12V, as well as an adjustable output version. These regulators require only a minimum number of external components, are easy to use, and integrate internal frequency compensation and a fixed-frequency oscillator. The LM2576 series serves as a high-efficiency replacement for popular three-terminal linear regulators, significantly reducing heatsink size and eliminating the need for a heatsink in some applications. Standard inductor series optimized for the LM2576 are available from multiple manufacturers, greatly simplifying switching power supply design. Additional features include: output voltage tolerance guaranteed at ±4% and oscillator frequency tolerance at ±10% under specified input voltage and output load conditions. An external shutdown function is provided, with a typical standby current of 50 μA. The output switch incorporates cycle-by-cycle current limiting and thermal shutdown for full protection under fault conditions. The LM2576 is available in TO220T-5L and TO263-5L packages.
