Introduction
The LM2576HV series regulators are monolithic ICs that provide all active functions required for a step-down switching regulator, capable of driving 3A loads with excellent line and load regulation. The series offers fixed output voltage versions of 3.3V, 5V, and 12V, as well as an adjustable output version. These regulators require minimal external components, are easy to use, and integrate internal frequency compensation and a fixed-frequency oscillator. The series serves as a highly efficient replacement for popular three-terminal linear regulators, significantly reducing heatsink size and, in some cases, eliminating the need for a heatsink altogether. Standard inductor series optimized for the LM2576HV are available from multiple manufacturers, greatly simplifying switching power supply design. Additional features include: output voltage tolerance guaranteed at ±4% and oscillator frequency tolerance at ±10% under specified input voltage and output load conditions; external shutdown capability with a typical standby current of 50μA; and output switch with cycle-by-cycle current limiting and thermal shutdown for comprehensive protection under fault conditions. The LM2576HV is available in TO220-5 and TO263-5 packages.
