Introduction
The MAX3485E is a 3.3V half-duplex RS-485 transceiver compliant with the TIA/EIA-485 standard. The device contains one driver and one receiver, each independently enable or disable-capable, presenting a high-impedance state when disabled. The receiver features 1/8 unit load (96kΩ) input impedance, allowing up to 256 transceivers to be connected in parallel on the same bus, supporting error-free data transmission at up to 12Mbps. Operating voltage range is 3.0~3.6V, with integrated fail-safe, over-temperature protection, current-limiting protection, and overvoltage protection. The driver features short-circuit output protection and thermal shutdown, forcing the output into a high-impedance state when junction temperature exceeds 140°C. The receiver features open-circuit fail-safe protection. The device is designed for bidirectional data communication on multipoint bus transmission lines, suitable for applications requiring extended cable distances, with impedance matching at both ends of the transmission line recommended to minimize signal reflections.
