EG Micro EG6599

EG6599 is a dual-ended controller dedicated to resonant half-bridge topology. It provides a 50% complementary duty cycle, with identical timing for the high-side and low-side switches, driven 180° out of phase, regulating the output voltage by modulating the operating frequency. A fixed dead time ensures soft switching and enables high-frequency operation; an external oscillator can set the converter's operating frequency. At startup, to prevent uncontrolled inrush current, the switching frequency begins at its maximum value and gradually decreases to a steady-state value determined by the control loop. This frequency sweep is nonlinear to minimize output voltage overshoot, and its duration is programmable. The IC can be forced into a controlled burst mode operation under light load to minimize converter input power consumption. IC features include an unlatched active-low disable input, current hysteresis and undervoltage protection, a current sense input, frequency auto-restart, switching and delayed shutdown. If the first-level protection is insufficient to control the IC, a higher-level OCP will latch the IC primary current. Their combination provides a complete overload and short-circuit protection circuit. An additional latched disable input (DIS) facilitates OTP or OVP implementation. An interface with a PFC controller is provided to enable shutdown under fault conditions, such as OCP shutdown and DIS high, or operation during burst mode.
