Introduction
The TPS5433xA series devices are synchronous converters with an input voltage range of 4.5V to 28V. These devices include an integrated low-side switch FET, eliminating the need for an external diode and reducing component count. Efficiency is maximized through integrated 128mΩ and 84mΩ MOSFETs, low I0, and pulse-skip mode under light load. Using the enable pin, shutdown supply current can be reduced to 2µA. This buck converter provides precise regulation for various loads through a well-regulated voltage reference with 1.5% accuracy over the temperature range.
Cycle-by-cycle current limiting on the high-side MOSFET protects the TPS5433xA series devices from overload conditions, further enhanced by a low-side source current limit that prevents current runaway. A low-side sink current limit turns off the low-side MOSFET to prevent excessive reverse current. If an overcurrent condition persists beyond a preset time, hiccup protection is triggered. When the die temperature exceeds the threshold, thermal shutdown disables the device and re-enables it after the built-in thermal hiccup time.
