Introduction
The AD2S1210 is a 10-bit to 16-bit resolution resolver-to-digital converter with an integrated on-chip programmable sinusoidal oscillator, providing sinusoidal excitation for the resolver. The sine and cosine inputs of the converter accept signals of 3.15 V p-p ±27% in the frequency range of 2 kHz to 20 kHz. A Type II servo loop is used to track the input signals and convert the information at the sine and cosine inputs into digital representations of the input angle and velocity. The maximum tracking rate is 3125 rps.
Features
- Complete single-chip resolver-to-digital converter
- Maximum tracking rate: 3125 rps (10-bit resolution)
- Accuracy: ±2.5 arc minutes
- Resolution: 10/12/14/16-bit, user-configurable
- Parallel and serial 10-bit to 16-bit data ports
- Absolute position and velocity output
- System fault detection
- Programmable fault detection thresholds
- Differential inputs
- Incremental encoder emulation
- Built-in programmable sine wave oscillator
- DSP and SPI interface compatible
- Supply voltage: 5 V, logic interface voltage 2.3 V to 5 V
- Rated temperature range: -40°C to +125°C
- Ratiometric tracking conversion. Type II tracking loop continuously outputs position data with no conversion latency. It also suppresses noise and provides harmonic distortion immunity for reference and input signals.
- System fault detection. The fault detection circuit can detect resolver signal loss, out-of-range input signals, input signal mismatch, or loss of position tracking. Each fault detection threshold can be individually programmed by the user for optimization in specific applications.
- Input signal range. Sine and cosine inputs support differential input voltage of 3.15 V p-p ±27%.
- Programmable excitation frequency. Excitation frequency can be easily set to multiple standard frequencies in the range of 2 kHz to 20 kHz.
- Triple-format position data. 10-bit to 16-bit absolute angular position data is accessible via a 16-bit parallel port or 4-wire serial interface. Incremental encoder emulation uses standard A-quad-B format with direction output.
- Digital velocity output. 10-bit to 16-bit signed digital velocity is accessible via a 16-bit parallel port or 4-wire serial interface.
Applications
- DC and AC servo motor control
- Encoder emulation
- Electric power steering
- Electric vehicles
- Integrated starter generator/alternator
- Automotive motion detection and control
