Introduction
FDA117 is a photovoltaic MOSFET driver consisting of an LED and an optically coupled photodiode array. The driver output is controlled via a high-efficiency infrared LED on the input side. When current is applied to the LED, the emitted light activates the photodiode array, generating a voltage at the output. The photodiode array produces a floating power supply with sufficient voltage and current to drive high-power MOSFETs. An integrated turn-off circuit within the photodiode array discharges the gate charge of the external MOSFET when the LED current is removed, eliminating the need for external components to assist with gate discharge. The optocoupling technology provides 5000Vrms input-to-output isolation. The FDA117 is ideal for discrete solid-state relay designs and other isolated switching applications.
