Introduction
TP4057 is a complete constant-current/constant-voltage single-cell Li-ion battery charge management IC. Its SOT package and minimal external component count make it an ideal choice for portable applications. The TP4057 is suitable for operation with USB power supplies and adapter power sources. The internal PMOSFET architecture and anti-reverse charging circuitry eliminate the need for external sense resistors and isolation diodes. Thermal feedback regulates the charge current to limit die temperature during high-power operation or elevated ambient temperature conditions. The charge voltage is fixed at 4.2V, and the charge current is programmable via a single external resistor. When the charge current drops to 1/10 of the programmed value after the final float voltage is reached, the TP4057 automatically terminates the charge cycle. When the input voltage is removed, the TP4057 automatically enters a low-current state, reducing battery leakage current to below 2μA. The TP4057 can also be placed in shutdown mode, reducing supply current to 25μA. Additional features include charge current monitoring, undervoltage lockout, automatic recharge, and a status pin for indicating charge termination and input voltage connection. The IC integrates a dual-LED charge status indicator, configurable to illuminate a red LED during charging and a green LED upon charge completion.
