Introduction
The LM2575HV series regulators are monolithic integrated circuits that provide all the active functions for a step-down (buck) switching regulator, capable of driving a 3A load with excellent line and load regulation. The series offers fixed output voltages of 3.3V, 5V, and 12V, as well as an adjustable output version. These regulators require a minimum number of external components, are easy to use, and incorporate internal frequency compensation and a fixed-frequency oscillator. The LM2575HV series serves as a highly efficient alternative to popular three-terminal linear regulators, significantly reducing heatsink requirements and, in some cases, eliminating the need for a heatsink altogether. Standard inductor series optimized specifically for the LM2575HV are available from multiple manufacturers, greatly simplifying switching power supply design. Additional features include: output voltage tolerance guaranteed to ±4% and oscillator frequency tolerance of ±10% under specified input voltage and output load conditions. An external shutdown function is included, with a typical standby current of 50μA. The output switch features cycle-by-cycle current limiting and thermal shutdown protection, providing comprehensive protection under fault conditions. The LM2575HV is available in TO220-5 and TO263-5 packages.
