Introduction
The LM2575HV series regulators are monolithic integrated circuits that provide all active functions required for a step-down switching regulator, capable of driving 3A loads with excellent line and load regulation. The series offers fixed output voltages of 3.3V, 5V, and 12V, as well as an adjustable output version. These regulators require a minimum number of external components, are easy to use, and incorporate internal frequency compensation and a fixed-frequency oscillator. The LM2575HV series serves as a highly efficient alternative to popular three-terminal linear regulators, significantly reducing heatsink size and, in some cases, eliminating the need for a heatsink altogether. Standard inductor series optimized for the LM2575HV are available from multiple manufacturers, greatly simplifying switching power supply design. Additional features include: guaranteed output voltage tolerance of ±4% and oscillator frequency tolerance of ±10% under specified input voltage and output load conditions. An external shutdown function is available with a typical standby current of 50μA. The output switch incorporates cycle-by-cycle current limiting and thermal shutdown for full protection under fault conditions. The LM2575HV is available in TO220-5 and TO263-5 packages.
