The LM2575HV series regulators are monolithic integrated circuits that provide all active functions for a step-down (buck) switching regulator, capable of driving a 3A load with excellent line and load regulation. The series offers fixed output voltages of 3.3V, 5V, and 12V, as well as an adjustable output version. These regulators require a minimum number of external components, are easy to use, and incorporate internal frequency compensation and a fixed-frequency oscillator. The LM2575HV series serves as a highly efficient alternative to popular three-terminal linear regulators, significantly reducing heatsink size and, in some cases, eliminating the need for a heatsink altogether. Standard inductor series optimized for the LM2575HV are available from multiple manufacturers, greatly simplifying switching power supply design. Additional features include: output voltage tolerance guaranteed at ±4% and oscillator frequency tolerance at ±10% under specified input voltage and output load conditions. An external shutdown function is provided, with a typical standby current of 50μA. The output switch incorporates cycle-by-cycle current limiting and thermal shutdown for full protection under fault conditions. The LM2575HV is available in TO220-5 and TO263-5 packages.
