ETA9638 is a fully integrated power management unit designed for power bank, mobile charger, and backup battery charger applications. It integrates a high-efficiency synchronous boost converter and a linear battery charger. The boost converter delivers up to 1A output current at 5V output from a Li-ion battery input voltage, while the charger provides up to 1A charging current from an AC adapter input. The boost converter incorporates built-in circuitry to disconnect the input from the output during shutdown, short circuit, output current overload, or conditions where the output voltage exceeds the input voltage. This eliminates the need for an external MOSFET and its associated control circuitry, while providing robust output overload protection. The device employs a patent-pending technology to drive the charging LED indicator, eliminating the microcontroller typically required in mobile chargers. In addition to the cost savings from removing the microcontroller, the entire device draws less than 100μA quiescent current at no load, making it a superior solution compared to conventional microcontroller-based designs that typically consume up to 1mA, particularly when considering standby time between charges.
