Introduction
The SN65HVD485E is a half-duplex transceiver designed for RS-485 data bus networks. It operates from a 5-volt supply and is fully compliant with the TIA/EIA-485A standard. The device is suitable for data transmission over long twisted-pair cables and is designed to operate at very low supply current, excluding load. The wide common-mode range and high ESD protection level make it suitable for demanding applications when the device is in inactive shutdown mode. The SN65HVD485E is pin-compatible with the industry-standard SN75176 package. A power-on reset circuit holds the outputs in a high-impedance state until the supply voltage is stable. Thermal shutdown protects the device from damage under system fault conditions. The SN65HVD485E is rated for operation over an ambient air temperature range of -40°C to 85°C.
