Introduction
These devices are half-duplex transceivers designed specifically for RS-485 data bus networks. They are powered by a 5V supply and fully comply with the TIA/EIA-485A standard. These devices feature controlled transition times, making them suitable for data transmission over long twisted-pair cables. The SN65HVD3082E and SN75HVD3082E devices are optimized for signaling rates up to 200kbps. The HVD3082/3085/3088 are 5V-powered, half-duplex, low-power, low-slew-rate RS-485 transceivers that fully meet TIA/EIA-485 standard requirements. The SN65HVD3082E, SN75HVD3082E, SN65HVD3088E, and SN65HVD3085E each incorporate one driver and one receiver, both of which can be independently enabled and disabled. When both are disabled, the driver and receiver outputs enter a high-impedance state. With 1/8 unit load, up to 160 transceivers can be connected on the same communication bus. The slew-rate-limited driver significantly reduces EMI and reflections caused by improperly terminated cables, enabling error-free data transmission at rates from 500kbps up to 40Mbps. The SN65HVD3082E, SN75HVD3082E, SN65HVD3088E, and SN65HVD3085E operate over a supply voltage range of 4.75V to 5.25V, and feature fail-safe protection, over-temperature protection, current-limiting protection, overvoltage protection, and hot-swap capable control inputs. These devices offer excellent ESD protection performance, with HBM up to ±15kV and IEC 61000-4-2 contact discharge up to ±15kV.
