Introduction
Gas discharge tubes normally remain in a high-insulation-resistance state, equivalent to an open circuit, with virtually no effect on normal circuit operation. When a transient overvoltage occurs in the circuit and its amplitude exceeds the breakdown voltage of the gas discharge tube, the gas inside the tube becomes ionized, causing the tube to conduct rapidly and clamping the overvoltage to a lower level, thereby protecting the electronic equipment or circuit components connected in parallel from damage due to high-voltage transients. Once the overvoltage subsides, the gas discharge tube immediately returns to its high-insulation-resistance state and normal circuit operation resumes. The 3RD-8 series three-electrode gas discharge tube is a leaded component with standardized lead pitch and dimensions. It is not only easy to mount on a PCB, but also delivers excellent performance. Its low-capacitance characteristic minimizes signal interference when used in high-frequency communication circuits. The high insulation resistance ensures that circuit performance incurs no additional loss under normal operating conditions. In addition to communication interface protection, the series' ability to withstand high surge currents also makes it suitable for power supply protection.
