To obtain better system thermal performance, BQ298x devices feature high precision and can use sense resistors as low as 1mΩ. The CTR pin in the BQ298x device can be configured through host control to override the FET driver, thereby creating a system reset or shutdown function. Alternatively, the CTR pin can also be configured to connect to an external positive temperature coefficient (PTC) thermistor to implement FET overheat protection together with the internal die temperature sensor. The BQ2980xy devices support zero-volt (0V) charging, while the BQ2982xy devices disable this function.
