Introduction
LK118S is a single-channel toy DC motor driver IC designed for systems operating at low voltage. It features an H-bridge driver using PMOS and NMOS power transistors with low output resistance. The low on-resistance ensures minimal power dissipation during continuous high-current operation, guaranteeing long-term stable circuit performance.
LK118S integrates a thermal protection function. When a low-impedance load motor stalls or the output is short-circuited, the output current increases instantaneously, causing a sharp rise in circuit power dissipation and chip temperature. Once the chip temperature exceeds the maximum threshold set by the internal thermal protection circuit (typical value 150°C), the internal circuitry shuts down the power switching transistors inside LK118S, cutting off the load current to prevent safety hazards such as smoking or fire caused by excessive temperature in the plastic package. The built-in thermal hysteresis circuit ensures that the circuit can only be re-controlled after the temperature has recovered to a safe level.
