Introduction
This series of voltage regulators are monolithic ICs providing step-down switching regulator functions capable of driving 3A loads, with excellent line and load regulation. The devices are available in 3.3V, 5V, 12V, and 15V fixed output voltages as well as an adjustable output version. An internally integrated frequency compensator and fixed-frequency oscillator significantly reduce the external component count and simplify implementation. Efficiency is substantially higher than popular three-terminal linear regulators, making these devices ideal drop-in replacements that typically require no heatsink or only a small one. The optimized design allows compatibility with standard inductor series available from multiple suppliers, simplifying switching power supply design. Additional features include: guaranteed output voltage accuracy of ±4% and oscillator frequency accuracy of ±10% under specified input voltage and output load conditions. An external shutdown circuit is provided with a typical standby current of 50uA. The output switch incorporates cycle-by-cycle current limiting and thermal shutdown for comprehensive protection under fault conditions.
