The CY2542 is a quad PLL clock generator IC that generates four independent output frequencies from a single crystal or reference clock, ranging from 3 to 50 MHz (for 1.5 V/1.8 V output voltages) or 3 to 166 MHz (for 2.5 V/3.0 V/3.3 V output voltages). It features a two-wire serial interface for programming the configuration storage array via programmable output dividers, spread spectrum characteristics, and drive strength to synthesize output frequencies, and can also be used for in-system control of these programmable features. The input can be either a crystal or clock signal, with a crystal input frequency range of 8 MHz to 48 MHz and an EXCLKIN input frequency range of 1 to 48 MHz. The IC has eight clock outputs divided into three banks, each with an independent power supply; output clock voltages are selectable at 1.5 V, 1.8 V, 2.5 V, 3.0 V, or 3.3 V. Five output clock sources are available and can be freely selected via a 4-to-5 crosspoint switch, allowing users to obtain up to four independent clock outputs plus one reference clock output.
