Introduction
CD4051 is an 8-to-1 analog multiplexer/demultiplexer with three address select inputs (<A0~A2>), an active-low enable input (∇:E), eight independent I/O channels (Y0~Y7), and a common I/O terminal (Z). The device contains eight bidirectional analog switches, each with one terminal connected to an independent I/O channel (Y0~Y7) and the other to the common I/O terminal (Z). When E is low, the switch of the channel selected by A0~A2 is in a low-impedance on state. When E is high, the A0~A2 settings are ignored and all switches enter a high-impedance off state. The enable input (E) must be used whenever switch-state transitions are required. VDD and VSS are the supply voltages for the digital control inputs (A0~A2 and E). The (ΔVDD - VSS) range is 3~9V. The analog I/O terminals (Y0~Y7 and Z) can swing between a maximum of VDD and a minimum of VEE. VDD - VEE shall not exceed 9V. For use as a digital multiplexer, VEE and VSS are connected together (typically tied to ground). CD4051 is primarily used in analog multiplexing, digital multiplexing, and signal gating applications.
