Introduction
In automotive microcontroller or microprocessor power supply applications, a watchdog is used to monitor the operating state of the microcontroller and prevent software runaway. In reliable systems, the watchdog must be independent of the microcontroller. The TPS7B68-Q1 is a 500mA watchdog LDO designed for operating voltages up to 40V, with a typical quiescent current of only 19μA under light-load conditions. The device integrates a programmable feature for selecting window or standard watchdog mode, and uses external resistors to set the watchdog timeout period (within 10% accuracy). The PG pin on the TPS7B68-Q1 indicates when the output voltage has stabilized and is within the regulated range. The power-good delay period and power-good threshold are adjustable via external components. In addition, the device features short-circuit and overcurrent protection. This combination of features makes the device highly flexible for powering microcontrollers in automotive applications.
