Introduction
The LM5163 synchronous buck converter is used for regulation over a wide input voltage range, thereby minimizing the need for external surge suppression components. The minimum controllable on-time of 50 ns helps achieve a large step-down ratio, supporting direct step-down conversion from a nominal 48V input to a low-voltage rail, thus reducing system complexity and solution cost. The LM5163 can continue to operate at a duty cycle close to 100% as needed when the input voltage suddenly drops to 6V, making it an ideal choice for industrial applications with a wide input power supply range and battery pack applications with a high number of battery cells. The LM5163 features integrated high-side and low-side power MOSFETs, capable of providing an output current of up to 0.5A. The constant on-time (COT) control architecture provides an almost constant switching frequency with excellent load and line transient response. Other features include ultra-low IQ and diode emulation mode operation (for high light-load efficiency), innovative peak and valley overcurrent protection, an integrated VCC bias supply and bootstrap diode, precision enable and input UVLO, and thermal shutdown protection with automatic recovery. The open-drain PGOOD indicator provides sequencing, fault reporting, and output voltage monitoring functions. The LM5163 is available in a thermally enhanced 8-pin SO PowerPAD package. Its 1.27mm lead pitch enables implementation in high-voltage applications.
