Introduction
These 8-bit latches feature three-state outputs specifically designed to drive high-capacitance or relatively low-impedance loads. They are particularly suitable for implementing buffer registers, I/O ports, bidirectional bus drivers, and working registers. The eight latches of the HCT373 device are transparent D-type latches. When the Latch Enable (LE) input is high, the Q outputs will follow the Data (D) inputs. When LE is low, the Q outputs are latched at the levels set on the D inputs. An Output Enable (OE̅) input can place the eight outputs in a normal logic state (high or low logic level) or a high-impedance state. In the high-impedance state, the outputs do not significantly load or drive the bus lines. The high-impedance state and enhanced drive capability allow the bus lines to be driven without the need for interface or pull-up components. OE does not affect the internal operation of the latches. When the outputs are disabled, old data can be retained, or new data can be input.
