Introduction
The TPS25980x series of electronic fuses are highly integrated circuit protection and power management solutions in a small package. These devices can operate over a wide input voltage range. A single device is suitable for low-voltage systems that require minimal I*R voltage drop and high-voltage, high-current systems that require low power dissipation. They are very effective in withstanding overloads, short circuits, voltage surges, and excessive inrush currents. Overvoltage events are limited by an internal cutoff circuit, and the overvoltage threshold can be selected through multiple device options. These devices provide a circuit breaker response for overcurrent conditions. A single external resistor can be used to set the overcurrent limit (circuit breaker threshold) and the fast trip (short circuit) threshold. These devices intelligently manage the overcurrent response by distinguishing between transient events and actual faults, allowing the system to operate continuously during line and load transients without compromising the robustness of fault protection. The device can be configured to latch off or automatically retry after a fault shutdown. A capacitor can be used to configure the number of automatic retries and the retry delay. This enables remote systems to automatically recover from temporary faults while ensuring that the power supply is not stressed indefinitely due to persistent faults. The TPS25980x devices are available in a small 4mm×4mm QFN package. These devices are rated for an operating junction temperature range of -40°C to 125°C.
