Introduction
TPS746 is an adjustable 1A low-dropout (LDO) regulator with a power-good indicator. The device features a compact 6-pin 2mm×2mm WSON package with ultralow quiescent current, delivering fast line and load transient performance. The TPS746 offers an ultralow dropout voltage of 225mV (at 1A), helping to improve overall system efficiency.
The TPS746 is optimized for a wide range of applications: it supports an input voltage range of 1.5V to 6.0V and an externally adjustable output range of 0.55V to 5.5V. This low output voltage enables the LDO to power modern microcontrollers with lower core voltages. In addition, the TPS746 features low IQ with an enable function to minimize standby power consumption. The device incorporates an internal soft-start function designed to reduce inrush current, which provides a controlled voltage ramp to the load and minimizes input voltage droop during startup.
The TPS746 includes a power-good (PG) output that monitors the feedback pin voltage to indicate the status of the output voltage. The EN input and PG output can be used to sequence multiple power supplies in a system.
The TPS746 remains stable when used with small ceramic output capacitors that support a compact overall solution size. A precision bandgap and error amplifier provides high accuracy — 0.7% (maximum) at 25°C and 1% (maximum) over temperature (85°C). The device includes integrated thermal shutdown, current limiting, and undervoltage lockout (UVLO) functions. The TPS746 incorporates an internal foldback current limit to help reduce thermal dissipation during short-circuit events.
