Introduction
The UCC28700 family of flyback power supply controllers provides constant voltage (CV) and constant current (CC) output regulation without the need for an optocoupler. The device processes information from the primary power switch and an auxiliary flyback winding to achieve precise control of output voltage and current. Low startup current, dynamic control of operating states, and a customized modulation parameter support extremely low standby power consumption without sacrificing startup time or output static response.
The control algorithm in the UCC28700 family enables operating efficiency to meet or exceed applicable standards. The output drive connects to a MOSFET power switch. Discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) with valley switching reduces switching losses. Modulation of switching frequency and primary current peak amplitude (FM and AM) maintains high conversion efficiency across the full load and line range.
This controller has a maximum switching frequency of 130kHz and continuously maintains control of the primary peak current in the transformer. Protection features help maintain primary and secondary stress components under control. The UCC28700 allows the cable compensation level to be set. The UCC28701, UCC28702, and UCC28703 devices provide fixed cable compensation levels while using a negative temperature coefficient (NTC) resistor for remote temperature sensing.
Features
- <30mW no-load power consumption for 5-star rating
- Primary-Side Regulation (PSR) eliminates the need for optocouplers
- ±5% voltage and current regulation
- 130kHz maximum switching frequency for high power density charger design
- Quasi-resonant valley switching for maximum overall efficiency
- Frequency jitter mechanism for reduced EMI compatibility (patent pending)
- Wide VDD range allows use of small bias capacitors
- Clamped gate drive output for MOSFET
- Protection features: overvoltage, brownout, and overcurrent protection
- Programmable cable compensation (UCC28700 only)
- NTC resistor interface with fixed cable compensation option (UCC28701, UCC28702, and UCC28703 only)
