Introduction
The ADS122U04 is a 24-bit precision analog-to-digital converter (ADC) that integrates various features to reduce system cost and the number of components in small sensor signal measurement applications. The device features two differential inputs or four single-ended inputs via a flexible input multiplexer (MUX), a low-noise programmable gain amplifier (PGA), two programmable excitation current sources, a voltage reference, an oscillator, and a precision temperature sensor. This device can perform conversions at a sampling data rate of up to 2000 samples per second (SPS) and can settle within a single cycle. For industrial applications in noisy environments, the digital filter provides both 50Hz and 60Hz rejection when the sampling frequency is 20SPS. The internal PGA provides a gain of up to 128. This PGA makes the ADS122U04 well-suited for applications that can measure small sensor signals, such as resistive temperature detectors (RTDs), thermocouples, thermistors, and resistive bridge sensors. The ADS122U04 features a 2-wire UART-compatible interface. In applications requiring electrical isolation, this universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter (UART) interface minimizes the number of digital isolation channels, thereby saving cost, reducing board space, and lowering power consumption. The ADS122U04 is available in a leadless 16-pin WQFN or a 16-pin TSSOP package and is specified for an operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.
