Introduction
The TPS25820/21 is a USB Type-C power controller that integrates a USB power switch rated at 1.5A. The TPS25820/21 determines whether a USB receiving device is connected by monitoring the Type-C Configuration Channel (CC) lines. If a receiving device is connected, the TPS25820/21 supplies power to VBUS and communicates the optional VBUS pull current capability to the receiver via the direct-through CC lines. If a receiving device is connected using an electronically marked cable, the TPS25820 also applies VCONN power to the cable's VCONN pins. The TPS25821 does not apply VCONN power and is useful in scenarios such as USB 2.0 and implementation of data-free charging where VCONN is not required. Without any additional components, the TPS25820/21 consumes a current of 1.0μA (typical). The FAULT output signals when the switch is in overcurrent and overheat conditions. The SINK output signals when a receiving device is connected, and the POL output signals the polarity of the cable's SuperSpeed lines.
