Introduction
UCC28056 is a PFC controller capable of directly driving output power up to 300W while ensuring low sinusoidal line input current distortion and near-unity power factor. The device incorporates burst mode operation to further improve light-load performance, enabling the system to meet challenging energy efficiency standards without shutting down the PFC. The UCC28056 can drive a PFC power stage up to 300W, ensuring low sinusoidal line input current distortion close to unity power factor while keeping the PFC "always on." When used in conjunction with the LLC controller UCC256301, this 6-pin device eliminates the need for an auxiliary flyback converter — typically required in such systems for good standby performance — while achieving less than 80mW power consumption at 230Vac. The device also enables instant-on capability while minimizing the number of external components.
Features
- Low input current distortion and near-unity power factor down to 10% load, compliant with IEC1000-3-2
- Ultra-low no-load input power (25mW at 115Vac, 40mW at 230Vac)
- Excellent efficiency across the load range
- In PFC + LLC systems, standby power consumption < 60mW at 115Vac and < 80mW at 230Vac
- Green energy standard compliance without disabling PFC
- EuP Lot 6 Level 2, CoC Ver. 5 Level 2, Energy Star Ver. 6.1 for computers, DOE Level VI
- Ultra-low audible noise output
- Burst mode with soft-in and soft-out cycles
- Enhanced EA for fast load transient response without degrading input current distortion
- Valley turn-on synchronization without secondary winding on boost inductor
- User-adjustable valley delay
- Low startup current consumption (< 46 μA)
- Wide VCC range: 8.5V to 34V
- Cycle-by-cycle current limiting
- Second independent output overvoltage protection
Applications
- Desktop PC / Digital TV
- Gaming / Set-top Box / AC Adapter Front-end
- LED Driver and Lighting
- Entry-level Server and Web Server
