Introduction
The TLV1171 low-dropout (LDO) linear regulator is a low input voltage version of the popular 1117 regulator.
The TLV1171 is an ultra-low quiescent current device, consuming only one five-hundredth of the quiescent current of a conventional 1117 regulator, making it ideal for applications requiring extremely low standby current. The TLV1171 LDO also maintains stability at 0 mA load current with no minimum load requirement, making it well-suited for applications that need to supply very light loads in standby while delivering approximately 1 A of current during normal operation. The TLV1171 provides excellent line and load transient performance, enabling very low undershoot and overshoot output voltages when load current demands transition from less than 1 mA to over 500 mA.
A high-accuracy bandgap reference and error amplifier deliver 1.5% accuracy. The high power supply rejection ratio (PSRR) allows the device to be used as a post-regulator after a switching regulator. Additional key features include low output noise and low dropout voltage.
The device is internally compensated for stability with 0 Ω ESR capacitors, enabling the use of low-cost, small ceramic capacitors. Additionally, low-cost capacitors with higher bias voltage and temperature derating can be used when necessary.
The TPS1171 is available in a SOT223 package. For an alternate pin-compatible version of this device, refer to the TLV1171LV.
