Introduction
HG25Q16 is a non-volatile flash memory device supporting the standard Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI). It supports both conventional single-bit serial I/O (Single I/O or SIO) and optional two-bit (Dual I/O or DIO) and four-bit (Quad I/O) serial protocols. This multi-width interface is referred to as SPI Multi I/O or MIO. The SPI protocol uses only 4 to 6 signals:
- Chip Select (CS#)
- Serial Clock (CLK)
- Serial Data
- IO0 (DI)
- IO1 (DO)
- IO2 (WP#)
- IO3 (HOLD# / RESET#)
Available package options: SOP-8, TSSOP-8, and DFN-8 (4×4). HG25Q16 supports standard SPI, Dual/Quad I/O SPI, and a Quad Peripheral Interface with 2-clock instruction cycles: serial clock, chip select, serial data I/O0 (DI), I/O1 (DO), I/O2 (WP#), and I/O3 (HOLD# / RESET#). SPI clock frequencies up to 104MHz are supported; when using Fast Read Dual/Quad I/O, the equivalent clock rate reaches 208MHz (104MHz×2) for Dual I/O and 416MHz (104MHz×4) for Quad I/O. These transfer rates surpass standard asynchronous 8-bit and 16-bit parallel flash. Continuous Read mode allows 24-bit address reads with as few as 8 clock cycles of instruction overhead, enabling true XIP (Execute-In-Place) operation. The HOLD pin, Write Protect pin, programmable write protection, and top/bottom array control provide enhanced control flexibility. The device also supports JEDEC-standard manufacturer and device ID, SFDP registers, a 64-bit unique serial number, and three 256-byte security registers. HG25Q16 offers an ideal storage solution for systems with limited space, signal connectivity, and power. These memories deliver greater flexibility and performance than conventional serial flash devices, making them well-suited for code shadowing to RAM, direct code execution (XIP), and reprogrammable data storage.
