Introduction
TCA9800 is a dual-channel bidirectional buffer for I²C bus and SMBus/PMBus systems. It provides bidirectional level translation between low voltages (down to 0.8V) and higher voltages (1.65V to 3.6V). The TCA9800 features an internal current source on the B side of the device, eliminating the need for external pull-up resistors on the B side. This current source also provides improved rise times and ultra-low power consumption. The TCA9800 provides true buffering (rather than a pass-FET solution) without the use of static or incremental voltage offsets. This means the VOL on both the A and B sides of the TCA9800 is very low (approximately 0.2V), helping to eliminate communication issues caused by fixed VIL thresholds. Another key feature of the TCA9800 is the absence of power sequencing requirements or power supply dependencies. VCCA can be greater than, less than, or equal to VCCB. This gives system designers the flexibility to use the TCA9800. The TCA9800 is part of a family of four devices, each with a different current source strength.
Features
- Up and down level translation in the range of 0.65V to 3.6V
- Operating temperature: -40℃ to +125℃
- Glitch suppression circuit for improved power sequencing performance
- Maximum quiescent current (ICC A + ICC B): 10μA (up to 85℃) and 16μA (up to 125℃)
- Supports translation rates up to 500Mbps when translating from 1.8V to 3.3V
- VCC isolation feature: if any VCC input falls below 100mV, all I/O outputs are disabled and placed in a high-impedance state
- Ioff supports partial power-down mode operation
- Latch-up performance exceeds 100mA, compliant with JESD 78 Class II
- ESD protection exceeds JESD 22 specifications: 8000V Human Body Model, 1000V Charged Device Model
