Introduction
The TUSB321AI device implements the configuration channel (CC) logic required by the Type-C ecosystem on a USB Type-C port. The TUSB321AI uses the CC pins to determine port connection status and cable orientation, as well as role detection and Type-C current mode control. The TUSB321AI can be configured as a downstream-facing port (DFP), upstream-facing port (UFP), or dual-role port (DRP), making it an ideal choice for any application. Per the Type-C specification, when configured as a DRP, the TUSB321AI alternates between DFP and UFP configurations. The CC logic block monitors the pull-up and pull-down resistors on the CC1 and CC2 pins to determine when a USB port is connected, the cable orientation, and the detected role. The CC logic uses the detected role to determine whether the Type-C current mode is Default, Medium, or High. This logic implements VBUS detection to determine whether the port is successfully connected in UFP and DRP modes. The device operates over a wide supply voltage range with low power consumption. The TUSB321AI is suitable for both industrial and commercial temperature ranges.
