Introduction
The DS90UB903Q/DS904Q chipset provides an FPD-Link III interface with a high-speed forward channel and a bidirectional control channel for data transmission over a single differential pair. The DS90UB903Q/904Q incorporates differential signaling on both the high-speed forward channel and the bidirectional control channel data paths. This serializer/deserializer pair targets direct connection between a graphics host controller and a display module. The chipset is suited for driving video data to displays requiring 18-bit color depth (RGB666 + HS, VS, and DE) along with a bidirectional control channel bus. The primary transport converts 21-bit data over a single high-speed serial data stream, together with a separate low-latency bidirectional control channel that accepts control information from an I²C port. Embedded clock technology enables transparent full-duplex communication over a single differential pair, carrying asymmetric bidirectional control channel information in both directions. This single serial data stream simplifies wide data bus transmission over PCB traces and cables by eliminating skew between parallel data and clock paths. As a result, limiting the data path width reduces system cost, PCB layer count, cable width, and connector size and pin count.
In addition, the deserializer input provides equalization control to compensate for losses introduced by longer-distance media. Internal DC equalization encoding/decoding is used to support AC-coupled interconnects.
The serializer is offered in a 40-pin Very Thin Quad Flat No-Lead (WQFN) package, while the deserializer is offered in a 48-pin WQFN package.
