The SN75161B and SN75162B octal general-purpose interface bus transceivers are monolithic, high-speed, low-power Schottky devices designed to meet the requirements of IEEE Standard 488-1978. Each transceiver is designed to provide bus management and data transfer signals between operating units in an instrument system with a single controller or multiple controllers. When used in conjunction with the SN75160B octal bus transceiver, the SN75161B or SN75162B provides a complete 16-line IEEE-488 bus interface. The SN75161B and SN75162B feature eight driver-receiver pairs connected in a front-to-back configuration, forming input/output (I/O) ports on the bus side and the terminal side. A power-up/power-down disable circuit is included on all bus and receiver outputs. This provides glitch-free operation during VCC power-up and power-down. The data direction through these driver-receiver pairs is determined by the DC, TE, and SC (on the SN75162B only) enable signals. The SC input on the SN75162B allows independent control of the REN and IFC transceivers. The driver outputs (GPIB I/O ports) have an active bus termination resistor circuit that presents a high impedance to the bus when the supply voltage VCC is 0. The drivers are designed to handle sink current loads of up to 48mA. Each receiver has a pnp transistor input for high input impedance and 400mV of hysteresis to increase noise immunity. All receivers have three-state outputs when disabled, presenting a high impedance to the terminal. The SN75161B and SN75162B operate over a temperature range of 0°C to 70°C.
