Introduction
It includes a line driver, a line receiver, and a dual charge pump circuit with ±15kV ESD protection for pin-to-pin (serial port connection pins, including GND). These devices can provide an electrical interface between an asynchronous communication controller and a serial port connector. The charge pump and four small external capacitors support operation from a single 3V to 5.5V power supply. These devices operate at data signal transmission rates of up to 1Mbit/s, with a driver output slew rate of 24V/μs to 150V/μs. When the serial port is inactive, flexible power management control options are available. The automatic power-down function is enabled when FORCEON is low and FORCEOFF is high. In this operating mode, if the device does not sense a valid RS - 232 signal at the receiver input, the driver output is disabled. If FORCEOFF is set to low and EN is high, both the driver and the receiver are turned off, and the supply current is reduced to 1μA. Disconnecting the serial port or turning off the peripheral driver will cause an automatic power-down situation. Automatic power-down can be disabled when both FORCEON and FORCEOFF are high. When automatic power-down is enabled, the device automatically activates when a valid signal is applied to the receiver input. The INVALID output notifies the user whether there is an RS - 232 signal at the receiver input. INVALID is high (valid data) if the receiver input voltage is greater than 2.7V or less than -2.7V, or if it stays between -0.3V and 0.3V for less than 30μs. INVALID is low (invalid data) if the receiver input voltage stays between -0.3V and 0.3V for more than 30μs.
