Introduction
The TPS61098x can provide an ultra-low-power solution for products powered by single- or dual-cell alkaline batteries, nickel-cadmium or nickel-metal hydride batteries, single-cell coin batteries, single-cell lithium-ion or lithium-polymer batteries. This device integrates a low-dropout linear regulator (LDO) or a load switch with a boost converter and provides dual output power rails. The boost converter output V(MAIN) serves as the power supply for the main system and is always on, while the LDO or load switch output V(SUB) powers the peripherals.
The TPS61098x has two modes controlled by the MODE pin: the operating mode and the low-power mode. In the operating mode, both outputs are enabled with enhanced response performance. In the low-power mode, the LDO or load switch is disabled, disconnecting from the peripherals. In the low-power mode, the TPS61098x only consumes 300nA of quiescent current and can achieve an efficiency of up to 88% at a 10μA load.
The TPS61098x supports the automatic pass-through function. When the input voltage is higher than the pass-through threshold, the boost converter stops switching and transfers the input voltage to the VMAIN rail; when the input voltage is lower than this threshold, the boost converter operates in the boost mode and regulates the output to the target value.
The TPS61098x is available in multiple versions for different output settings. During the conversion from a 0.7V input to a 3.3V output, the TPS61098x can provide a total output current of up to 50mA. This boost converter is based on a hysteretic controller topology and can achieve ultra-high efficiency with ultra-low quiescent current using a synchronous rectifier.
The TPS61098x is available in a 1.5mm×1.5mm WSON package, enabling a compact circuit layout.
