Introduction
The TPS241x controller, used in conjunction with an external N-channel MOSFET, can mimic the function of a low forward-voltage diode. This device can be used to combine multiple power supplies with a common bus in an N+1 configuration or to combine redundant input power supply buses. The TPS2410 offers linear start-up control, while the TPS2411 features an on/off control method. Applications suitable for the TPS2410x include various systems such as servers and telecommunication systems. These applications typically have N+1 redundant power supplies, redundant power supply buses, or both. During faults and hot-swapping, these redundant power supplies must have equivalent diode OR to prevent reverse current. Compared to Schottky diodes, the TPS241x and N-channel MOSFET can provide this function with lower power loss. Precise voltage detection, programmable fast shutdown thresholds, and input filtering allow the operation mode to be tailored to various implementation methods and bus characteristics. Many monitoring functions are provided to indicate voltage bus UV/OV, on/off status, and short-circuited MOSFET gates.
