Introduction
The DRV8662 is a single-chip piezoelectric haptic driver with an integrated 105V boost switch, an integrated power diode, and an integrated fully differential amplifier. This versatile device can drive high-voltage and low-voltage piezoelectric haptic actuators. The input signal can be differential or single-ended. The DRV8662 supports four GPIO-controlled gains: 28.8dB, 34.8dB, 38.4dB, and 40.7dB. Two external resistors are used to set the boost voltage, and the boost current limit can be programmed via the REXT resistor. This boost converter architecture will not allow the power supply current requirement to exceed the limit set by the R_EXT resistor; therefore, the DRV8662 is well-suited for portable applications. This feature also allows users to optimize the DRV8662 for a given inductor based on the required performance. The typical startup time of 1.5ms makes the DRV8862 an ideal piezoelectric driver for fast haptic response. The device has thermal overload protection to prevent damage during overdrive.
