Introduction
The TCA9535 is a 24-pin device that provides 16-bit general-purpose parallel I/O expansion for the two-wire bidirectional I2C bus or SMBus protocol. The device operates over a supply voltage range of 1.65V to 5.5V. The TCA9535 consists of two 8-bit configuration (selectable as input or output), input port, output port, and polarity inversion (active-high or active-low operation) registers. At power-up, the I/Os are configured as inputs. The system controller can enable the I/Os as inputs or outputs by writing to the I/O configuration bits. The TCA9535 is identical to the TCA9555, except that it does not include internal I/O pull-up resistors (when configured as inputs and not driven, unused I/O pins require pull-up or pull-down resistors).
