Introduction
The LMP91000 is a programmable analog front-end (AFE) designed for low-power electrochemical sensing applications. It provides a complete signal path solution between the sensor and microcontroller, generating an output voltage proportional to the cell current. The programmability of the LMP91000 enables it to support multiple electrochemical sensors through a single design rather than multiple discrete solutions — for example, 3-wire toxic gas sensors and 2-wire galvanic cell-type sensors. The LMP91000 supports gas sensitivity ranging from 0.5nA/ppm to 9500nA/ppm, and enables simple conversion across a full-scale current range of 5μA to 750μA.
The LMP91000's adjustable cell bias and transimpedance amplifier (TIA) gain are programmable via the I²C interface, which also supports sensor diagnostics. An integrated temperature sensor can be read by the user through the VOUT pin and used to provide additional signal correction (in μc), or monitored to verify the sensor's temperature condition.
The LMP91000 is optimized for low-power applications, operating over a supply voltage range of 2.7V to 5.25V. Total current consumption is below 10μA. Power can be further reduced by shutting down the TIA amplifier and shorting the reference electrode to the working electrode using an internal switch.
